Sports Injury
Sports Injuries can only get worse if a player “Toughs it out”…
In youth sports serious sports injury is not common due to their small size, limited strength and adult supervision. Sports injuries become more common in high school, where competition is more intense and teens are bigger and stronger. Symptoms common for a sports injury are:
- Bleeding
- Numbness or tingling of an extremity
- Loss of consciousness
- Instability of a joint
- Swelling or pain
- If the player cannot move a joint
An athlete with any of these symptoms should not return to the game. In collision sports the most common injuries are bumps, bruises, and lacerations. In running sports, the most common injuries are torn muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Sprains and strains are also common. As a coach, you must make sure athletes alert you if they are in pain and think they are injured. You should also have them see a physician for treatment right away.
