I need more protein…we have heard this from our athlete more than once. Read on as we disclose why this is not true…
The Myth About Protein
Many athletes think they need extra protein because they are burning so many calories. This is not true.
Protein is needed to help build muscles but, a well balanced diet which includes two or three servings of protein and two or three servings of dairy will supply the protein that he/she needs. Example of protein sources are lean meats, fish, eggs, peanut butter, nuts such as cashews or almonds, Soy products and tofu.
Whey protein is another great source for athletes. Whey protein comes from milk proteins as part of the cheese manufacturing process. Research shows that 100% whey protein has one of the highest protein qualities of all proteins, and has one of the highest protein efficiency ratios, providing more amino acids than most other proteins. Destination Athlete has Twinlab 100% Whey Protein available to help aide in our athlete’s nutrition.
Parents should consult your physician or a registered dietitian before changing your athlete’s diet.
